June 12 is a special gory and mourning day in the history of Nigeria; and even in celebration, we still mourn. we mourn our lack of unity, our thirst for backstabbing our brothers and our inherent greed of what we have known as the national cake. even though we got our independence as a nation in 1960, we are still mentally and psychologically bind to the slavery mentality that the british government gave to us on a plate of mud not even gold.
i read the history of MKO ABIOLA and listened to songs of Fela Anikulapo Kuti about ITT(INTERNATIONAL THIEF THIEF). I want to believe MKO ABIOLA reached a path in his life that he discovered the true essence of freedom and he became a transformed man. And his transformation is visible for all to see because until his death he has given so much back to the society; he was the greatest philanthropist in our dispensation until his death. No one is good or without weakness except God. It takes a great character for a man to accept his failings and change for good!
Today I remember MKO ABIOLA, the only Nigeria elected president that was never sworn into office. He gave the whole country hope and all ethnicity voted for him. His victory, was historical like that of Obama. Africa celebrated his victory like we celebrated Obama historical victory. Then, the post election days became a series of murders, imprisonments and we know what the military heads at the time did.
MKO ABIOLA died with so many freedom fighters because of what they believed in. They went to jail, was tortured and only God knows what their eyes saw when in those prisons.
Even, if the Federal Republic of Nigeria Executive and Legislative arm still play politics with making June 12 a public holiday. Freedom fighters all over the world will always celebrate MKO ABIOLA, JUNE 12 and all the freedom fighters that sacrifice for the freedom we are enjoying today.
my question is if we have CHIEF GANI FAWEHINMI FREEDOM PARK, WHY CANT WE HAVE MKO ABIOLA JUNE 12 FREEDOM DAY?
